OXFAM - TOWER DEFENSE

Isart Digital

2021 - 2022

Worked in a team

A group project that took place throughout the 2021 - 2022 school year during my studies at Isart Digital.

One day a week was set aside to work on this project.

During this project, we were assigned to the Oxfam organization in multiple groups, and aimed to design a digital invitation to Oxfam's climate camp.

We had to design a prototype which then has the potential to be chosen by Oxfam.

This project, although starting well, was jeopardized by the loss of communication with members of the group.

However, by forcing us to adapt, the members of the remaining group managed to produce a project that was second in the projects chosen by Oxfam.

Concept Development

  • Quickly, our idea was to make this playful, in order to reach people who normally would not be interested in this. The idea of a simple video game was thus established, then eventually, we decided to make a game of Tower Defense.

  • The idea was therefore to gameify Oxfam, translating the various conflicts Oxfam faces into gameplay elements.

Used tools

  • For this project, various fakescreens were created byphotoshop, however the main tools for this project wereAudacityandAdobe Premier Pro, for video recording and editing

Items I worked on

  • As the main Game Designer of this game, my task in this project was to gameify Oxfam. So I was responsible for creating the various turret and enemy functions featured in the video below.

  • When organizational and communication difficulties began to appear in the group, I also took on the role of project manager, organizing a meeting to record the video, as well as being responsible for the editing of the video and for the first version of the script.

Encountered difficulties

  • The project faced many difficulties when, in the last quarter of the project's development, two members of the group stopped communicating.

  • This got us in trouble, because one of them was the game's programmer, who hadn't sent out a new build since his first prototype.

  • The three remaining members of the group therefore had to organize themselves to be able to present the game despite the lack of a representative build of our work.

What I learned

  • For theHard Skills, this project taught me video editing on Adobe Premier Pro.

  • For theSoft Skills, this project allowed me to learn how to adapt to unforeseen situations that put the project at risk, especially in team management.
